The Gilmer Law Firm, PLLC places great importance on higher education and believes firmly in giving back to the community. To show our commitment and appreciation, we have established The Gilmer Law Firm Scholarship to be awarded to one student based on merit.

The scholarship recipient authorizes The Gilmer Law Firm PLLC to post their name, the name of their law school or university and their winning essay to Gilmerlegal.com.

2015 Eligibility Requirements

The scholarship is available to all students aspiring to become an attorney:

  • Current and future law students
  • Pre-law students
  • Students working towards their Juris Doctorate in any concentration of the law.

Scholarship Award: $2,000

Application Deadline: December 15, 2015 (your essay must be received by this date).

All college students and law students who are currently admitted to and are attending an accredited American university, college or law school may apply.

How to Apply

Applicants must submit the following:

  • A completed application (download here)
  • An essay on the subject outlined below. Note: there is no word count requirement, however the content of your essay should reflect the issue at hand and the research to support it. Essays must be attached in Word or PDF format.
  • Proof of acceptance and enrollment to an accredited institution.
  • A statement of your current academic status.

2015 Essay Topic

Discuss the process and procedure involved with child protective investigations from beginning to end in New York State. The essay must include the following:

  • Identify the law that gives the Administration of Children’s Services (ACS) the authority to do what it does.
  • Explain what a parent is to expect if someone calls in ACS case against them.
  • Explain what a parent can do to protect themselves during the 60 day investigation.

The essay should focus on the administrative process, not the family court process.
